Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SB119 amends Article 4 of Chapter 3 of Title 8 of the OCGA by adding sexual orientation and gender identity into law to protect individuals in the existing Fair Employment Practices Act. In addition Chapter 16 has been added, which details that everyone should be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any public place.  Those who file a complaint to the Commission on Equal Opportunity violating these laws, must do so within a year. If found responsible, those in violation may be required to pay $10,000 - $50,000 in fees.
