SB 149 amends Chapter 8 of Title 35 of the O.C.G.A. to establish training requirements for school resource officers that involves a training course at least 40 hours long and instructing officers in areas such as search and seizure in elementary and secondary 38 schools, criminal offenses, gang awareness, drug awareness, etc. The bill also allows municipal probation officers (both public and private) to exercise arrest powers provided they have received certification from the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST). Furthermore, SB 149 makes it unlawful for inmates in prisons to possess tobacco or any product containing tobacco. |
