Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:

            This bill would amend Part 3 of Article 16 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to require local systems to provide information regarding meningococcal meningitis to parents

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • If systems provide information to parents on immunizations, infectious diseases, medications or other school health issues in grades 6-12, then the following information would have to be included:
    • Description of causes, symptoms and means of transmission;
    • List of sources of further information;
    • Related recommendations issued by the federal CDC
  • DOE in cooperation with DHR would have to develop and make available information about the disease and its vaccine to local school districts, including posting it on its web site.
