SUMMARY:

            This bill would amend Part 3 of Article 16 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to require public schools to provide parents, etc., of 6^th grade female students information concerning infection and immunization against the human papillomavirus.

REQUIREMENTS:

• On or after October 1, 2010 each public school with 6^th graders must provide to parents of 6^th grade females information prescribed by the Department of Human Resources concerning the connection between cervical cancer and the virus infection and that an immunization is available.
• DHR must include:
• • The latest scientific information on the immunization and its effectiveness
  • That a PAP smear is still critical for the detection of precancerous conditions
  • How the virus infection is contracted
  • Statement that questions can be answered by a health care provider.
