Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:

            This resolution calls for accrediting agencies (specifically the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Georgia Accrediting Commission) to allow every opportunity for school systems subject to losing accreditation every opportunity to meet the standards and include:

  • Early, provisional submission of documentation regarding items in need of improvement or correction;
  • Response in writing from the accrediting agency  as to whether the documentation is judged pass or fail with a description of what is still needed;
  • At least one opportunity to correct or improve the documentation prior to the deadline for submission.
