Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:

            This bill would amend Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to provide for graduation from high school in 3 years and to provide grants for those students to attend post-secondary institutions.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • SBOE would have to establish a curriculum that would allow a student to graduate in 3 years and notify all high school students in the state of the available grants for 3-year graduates.
  • The grants would consist of up to $5,000 for tuition for coursework in the University System of Georgia up to the tuition equivalent of 45 quarter hours during the student’s first year of coursework.
  • The code section would apply to students graduating on and after July 1, 2009.
  • All grants would be continent upon General Assembly appropriations.
