Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This bill would amend Code Section 20-2-690 to provide notice to parents regarding unexcused absences to be made by U.S. mail rather than certified mail and changes some of the requirements of the notice.

REQUIREMENTS:

The notice would only have to be a “statement of attendance requirements” that would have to be signed by the parents and by student 10 years of age and older
Two attempts by U.S. mail would fulfill the system’s obligation of notice, whether or not the signatures were secured.
