Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This bill would amend Code Section 20-2-690 to provide notice to parents regarding unexcused absences to be made by U.S. mail  rather than certified mail and changes some of the requirements of the notice.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • The notice would only have to be a “statement of attendance requirements” that would have to be signed by the parents and by student 10 years of age and older
  • Two attempts by U.S. mail would fulfill the system’s obligation of notice, whether or not the signatures were secured.
