Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:  This bill would amend Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the O.C.G.A. to allow political bodies to nominate candidates for public office without the petition that is now required.  The political body can nominate candidates from each party, if it so desires.  The law would be extended to all elections, not just state-wide elections.

NOTE:  If passed, this bill would allow boards of education to nominate their successors.
