Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:  This bill would amend Part 6 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to provide that teacher salaries not be reduced, that state funding not be diverted to other uses, and that school system personnel not be subject to furloughs.

NOTE:  If state funds are not sufficient to pay teacher salaries and/or if local funds are not sufficient to make up the difference between state funds and the state salary schedule, then systems have no other option than to lay off teachers and other school personnel to meet their budgets.
