HR 55 recognizes the importance of literacy and expresses support for private programs which promote family literacy by giving books to the families of newborns.

This Resolution received a Do Pass recommendation from the Human Relations & Aging Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule.

WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?

This resolution expresses the support of the House for the goal of presenting �Baby�s first book� to all babies born in GA hospitals. We have the opportunity of encouraging local initiatives in providing this service

 

WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?

It communicates the support of the General Assembly in local efforts.

 

THIS LEGISLATION:

  • Reduces the Size of Government:

Accomplishes an important goal through private initiatives

  • Strengthens the Traditional Family Structure

Encourages parents to read to their children

  • Reduces the Tax Burden on our Citizens:

Books are privately given
