House Bill 122
Chair's Name: Tom McCall
Committee: Agriculture & Consumer Affairs
House Sponsor: Terry England
HB 122 requires the ingredients in equine feed to be individually listed on the label rather than grouped together by using a collective term.
This bill received a Do Pass recommendation from the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule.
Chairman McCalls Opinion of this legislation:
WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?
This bill only applies to feed produced for equines. The bill would require that ingredients for equine feed be listed in descending order of predominance by weight, rather than the use of a collective term for a group of ingredients. As an example, instead of simply "grain products," a label would read, "Wheat, Oats, etc."
WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?
Truth in labeling / consumer protection
THIS LEGISLATION:
Allows purchasers to compare quality of equine feed. This will help in-state feed companies compete on a level playing field with out-of-state companies if they all have specific tags on the feed bags.
