Chairman Smiths opinion of this legislation:

WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?

This bill gives DOT the ability to move quicker on projects that cost $100,000.00 or less without going through the bidding process.  This does not affect cities or counties.

WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?

With the rising cost of construction, the $50,000.00 cap needs to be increased to $100,000 in order to accomplish work in a more timely manner.

THIS LEGISLATION:

  • Reduces the Tax Burden on our Citizens

Could save dollars in the long run and speed up completion of projects.
