SB 96 amends drug-free workplace provisions by allowing on-site drug testing to be conducted.

This bill received a Do Pass recommendation from the Industrial Relations Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule.

WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?

This bill includes oral testing, which allows for immediate results for employers who test employees as a condition of employment (on-site drug screening).

 

WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?

This legislation allows for oral testing for drugs. Currently, everything has to be sent out to the lab. Technology has given a quicker result to the test.

 

THIS LEGISLATION:

  • Reduces the Size of Government:

It allows business to take care of their businesses more efficiently

  • Reduces the Tax Burden on our Citizens:

Drug-free workplace will help keep costs down that would eventually be passed on the to the consumers

  • Increases Personal Responsibility:

Allows a potential employee to know that businesses do not want drugs in the workplace
