SB 101 adds to the definition of �Forest products processing plant� to include operations involving gypsum rock.

This bill received a Do Pass recommendation from the Judiciary Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule.

WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?

Georgia law provides an exemption to its nuisance laws to forest products manufacturers.  Many forest products manufacturers in Georgia have been located in rural Georgia for over 25 years and produce products that use gypsum rock.  This bill will amend the definition of forest products manufacturer to include gypsum rock products. 

 

WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?

Increased residential development near forest products manufacturers and the need to protect these valuable industries.
