HB 118 adds an additional superior court judgeship to each of the following judicial circuits: Cobb, Dublin, Enotah, and Gwinnett. The judges will initially be appointed by the Governor and subsequently elected starting in 2008.
The committee substitute received a Do Pass recommendation from the Judiciary Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Modified Open Rule.

WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?
This legislation helps reduce the overcrowded docket in the Cobb, Dublin, Enotah and Gwinnett Judicial Circuits.
WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?
These Circuits have a shortage of judges which has resulted in an overcrowded docket which increases litigation costs and delays justice for our state most vulnerable citizens.
THIS LEGISLATION:
- Strengthens the Traditional Family Structure
This bill will give our judges more time in domestic cases to focus on what is in the best interest of our children.
