House Bill 311
Chair's Name: Ben Harbin
Committee: Appropriations
House Sponsor: Barry Fleming
HB 311 changes the date for qualifying service under the Georgia Hero Scholarship from May 3, 2005 (the date that the Governor signed the original legislation) to September 11, 2001. This would allow this scholarship to be available to our service men and women that were deployed overseas in the wake of September 11th, but who had already returned home before the scholarships creation.
This bill received a Do Pass recommendation from the Appropriations Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule.
Chairman Harbin's opinion of this legislation:
HB 311 ensures that all war-time veterans and their families are treated equally under the Georgia HERO scholarship. To accomplish this there needed to be a date extension.
THIS LEGISLATION:
- Strengthens Families of our veterans by providing educational opportunities.
- This legislation encompasses all service men and women on active duty, overseas since September 11, 2001 under the HERO Scholarship.
