HB 358 increases the death benefits paid by the Sheriffs’ Retirement Fund. Currently, the death benefit paid to beneficiaries of members is $7000 and this legislation would raise the benefit to $15,000.

HB 358 comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule. 

Chairman Bridges’ opinion of this legislation:

The present benefit amount has been in place for a number of years.  There is a cost associated with this legislation; however, the Fund is in a well-funded position and the revenues generated from fines, fees and bond forfeitures is sufficient to cover the additional cost associated with this bill, making outside funding unnecessary.
