HB 544 allows private colleges and universities to create risk pool arrangements between two or more institutions for the purpose of providing self-funded health insurance plans.

This bill comes to the House Floor under the Modified Open Rule.

Chairman Knox’s opinion of this legislation:

This bill makes health financing more available for private colleges which currently are unable to be self insured as public colleges are. This change may help private universities and colleges to attracted and retain higher caliber staff and faculty trough a more attractive benefits package.

Further Action

The Senate added the “Georgia Basic Health Insurance Plan” and "Georgia Health Marketplace Act". The House agreed as amended by the House, removing the provisions added by the Senate.
