Senate Bill 300

Chairman: Amos Amerson

Committee:Science & Technology

House Sponsor: Jill Chambers

Senate Sponsor: Chip Rogers

SB 300 provides for the creation of a free, publicly accessible website which provides state expenditure information. The Committee Substitute adds all of the provisions from HB 91, which was passed by the House last year, vetoed by the Governor, and overridden in January, adding state authorities to the entities required to report.

House Sponsor’s Opinion of the Legislation:

The “Georgia Transparency in Government Act codifies info to be in reports, requires state authorities to have their audits reviewed by the state auditor, and puts all reports online. This will help open up spending by state agencies and authorities so that the legislature and the public may examine audit reports. This may lead to eliminating waste and duplication in state spending.

This bill comes to the House Floor under the Modified Structured Rule. A Rules Committee substitute adds language that clarifies that the University System of Georgia is included.
