House Bill 831

Chair's Name: Brooks Coleman

Committee:   Education

House Sponsor: Ed Setzler

HB 831 enacts the Charter School Capital Finance Act. This act would allow the State Board of Education to establish a grant program for charter school contributions. Subject to appropriations, the program will provide dollar-for-dollar matching funds for private contributions made to qualified charter school projects. A cap on matching funds is set by a statutory formula.

This bill comes to the House Floor under the Modified Structured Rule.

Secretary Benton’s Opinion of this legislation:

This bill provides for a grant program under the state DOE with respect to qualified donations. This would bring a public/private partnership to aid in the creation of charter school.

This Legislation:

Reduces the Size of Government and Reduces the Tax Burden by allowing for public and private funding of charter schools in the form of grants.
