Staff Analysis of the Legislation

Senate Bill 363

Chairman: Sharon Cooper

Committee:Health & Human Services

House Sponsor: Carl Rogers

Senate Sponsor: Lee Hawkins

SB 363 adds a definition for “advanced dental education program” and references these programs throughout the statutes dealing with the educational requirements for dentists and hygienists.

This bill comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule. During previous floor action, the  bill was amended and later reconsidered. The bill comes to the Floor again in the same form as before, without the amendment.

Chairman Copper’s Opinion of this Legislation:

Under current law there is no provision for advanced dental education programs.  This legislation allows the accreditation of these programs and institutes criteria for instructors of such programs. This legislation would provide for a higher level of dental education and specialization which will increase the level of care provided to patients of this state.
