House Bill 1189
Chair's Name: Vance Smith
Committee: Transportation
House Sponsor: Donna Sheldon
Chairman Smith’s Opinion of the legislation:
This legislation would require the Department of Transportation to report to the leadership of the legislature and the House and Senate Transportation committees on the progress of the State-wide Strategic Transportation Plan. Details in the report would include costs, funding sources, and timelines for current and future DOT projects. This bill also establishes a timeline, requiring a draft of the plan to be delivered for comments and suggestions by August 1, 2008 and the final version to be delivered by December 31, 2008. The plan must be updated and delivered annually thereafter, as well as posted on DOT’s website.
There is a need for changes and improvements in the transportation situation in this state. This report would allow the Governor, Lt. Governor, Speaker of the House, and the Chairpersons of the House and Senate Transportation Committees to oversee the progress of DOT in transportation improvements.
This committee substitute comes to the Floor under the Open Rule.
Further Action
The Senate added an end date to the comment period and changed the due date for the final plan from May 1, 2009 to June 30, 2009. The House agreed to the Senate Substitute. |
