Chairman Rice’s opinion of this legislation:

Local police have towed away and impounded vehicles covered under fleet insurance policies even when they were presented with valid fleet insurance cards. The bill makes local law enforcement responsible for all costs incurred if vehicles are legally covered under fleet policies.

This bill comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule.

Further Action

The House agreed to the Senate Substitute, which limited the recoverable costs to the yard and impoundment fees and made clear that sovereign immunity was not waived.
