Senate Bill 517

Chairman: Tom Rice

Committee:Motor Vehicle

House Sponsor: Burke Day

Senate Sponsor: Judson Hill

This bill would allow certain business entities, upon submitting an affidavit from health practitioner that their employee is disabled, to be issued a specially designated disabled person’s license plate. The affidavit must also state that the business vehicle is used primarily by the disabled employee. When employees which are not disabled use the vehicle, they must not take advantage of the special plate. If the disabled employee leaves the company, the plate must be surrendered within 60 days.  Penalties will apply for the abuse of these special plates.

This bill comes to the House Floor under the Modified Structured Rule.

Chairman Rice’s Opinion of the Legislation:

Currently, business owners cannot get a “disabled” license plate for a company car. They can only get one for a personal vehicle.
