05.04.2017 The conference committee met and adopted all identical sections of the two bills. Members plan to continue to meet to work on the different sections. 03.14.2017 The Senate Finance Committee gave this bill a favorable report as amended by the subcommittee and later amended by the full committee to change the car tax structure but yield the same revenue. 03.08.2017 The Senate Finance Special Transportation subcommittee gave this bill a favorable report as amended. The amendment raises the gas tax 2 cents every year for 6 years to raise $800 million for roads. The amendment would also cap the gas tax below Georgia and North Carolina's current taxes, it strikes the S.C. DOT governance changes included in the House bill. The amendment also raises car sales taxes and other fees. 03.07.2017 The Senate Finance Special Transportation subcommittee carried this bill over. 02.09.2017 The House Ways and Means Committee gave this bill a favorable report as amended by the subcommittee. 02.07.2017 The House Ways and Means Legislative subcommittee gave this bill a favorable report as amended. The amendment creates a infrastructure maintenance trust fund for repairs and maintenance only. Summary of the bill as introduced: Increases the motor fuel user fee by 10 cents over five years to pay for highway and road repair and maintenance. |
