HB
673 amends Title 40 of the O.C.G.A. to increase the points assessed for someone
who is found in violation of the usage of wireless telecommunication device
requirements, while broadening the scope of what constitutes distracted driving
and increasing its penalties. It defines a wireless telecommunication device
and forbids a driver to hold or support such device with any part of his/her
body while driving. It also forbids the driver from writing, sending, or
reading any text-based communication, unless the command is voice-based or the
device is used for global positioning system purposes. It further forbids a
driver from watching or recording a video while driving. Those convicted shall
be guilty of a misdemeanor. The fee for a first conviction is no more than $50,
followed by no more than $100 for a second conviction, and no more than $150
for a third conviction. |
