Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY: LC 21 2111
This bill changes Georgia History Month from February to September.

REQUIREMENTS:
None

POINTS TO CONSIDER:
Currently the month of February is both American History Month and Georgia History Month.

This change would leave American History Month in February and put Georgia History Month in September.  The U.S. Constitution was signed by  39 members of the Constitution Convention September 17, 1787; Georgia's first colonists landed at Yamacraw Bluffs February 12, 1733.

It might be more appropriate to make September American History Month in keeping with the growing focus on the Constitution and other historical documents.

EFFECTIVE DATE:

July 1, 2013
