Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:  LC 41 0078S  Creates the Georgia Leadership and Service Scholar Program.  Students enrolling in a university system institution may be nominated by the Governor, Lt. Governor, or member of the General Assembly.  Such nomination may be used in the admissions process. 

REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible for nomination, the student must:

  • meet the median grade point average and entrance exam scores for the class admitted for the preceding fall semester at the institution that the student seeks enrollment
  • the institution must offer a ROTC program and the student must participate in the ROTC program
  • meets HOPE scholarship requirements
  • is a citizen and legal resident of Georgia

EFFECTIVE DATE: Upon approval by the General Assembly and Governor.
