SUMMARY: LC 25 6555ER Prohibits discriminatory action by state or local governments against a person who believes, speaks, or acts in accordance with a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman or that sexual relations are properly reserved to such marriage.
- Under the above, governments may not:
- deny, withhold, terminate, reprimand, censure or make unavailable any grant, contract loan, license, certification, employment, etc.
- deny equal treatment or eligibility for a degree from an educational program
- make unavailable access to any speech forum (including access to educational facilities)
- allows court action regardless of administrative remedies
- allows for payments for damages, attorney's fees and litigation expenses
- waives sovereign immunity by government entities
EFFECTIVE DATE: Upon approval by the General Assembly and Governor.
