SUMMARY: LC 49 1068

This bill, Alyssa's Law, would require each school district to implement a mobile panic alert system that can connect various emergency services technologies to ensure real-time coordination between local and state law enforcement and first responder agencies by July 1, 2024.

The system shall be called Alyssa's Alert and shall integrate with local public safety answering point infrastructure to transmit 911 calls and mobile activations.

No later than December 1, 2023, the Department of Administrative Services, after consulting with the State School Superintendent and the Governor's Office of Emergency Management, shall issue a competitive bid for one or more vendors for systems meeting the bill's requirements.

Alyssa's Law is named after Alyssa Alhadeff, one of the victims in the Parkland, FL, high school shootings.  It has been passed in New York New Jersey, and Florida and is proposed in six other states according to Make Our Schools Safe which seems to be the genesis of the legislation.

EFFECTIVE DATE:

July 1, 2023
