SUMMARY:  This bill would amend Article 3 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to allow local boards of education to solicit and accept donations and gifts for the purposes of field trips and other educational purposes.

Note:  This bill would have the unintended benefit of allowing teachers to legally “solicit” parents to donate supplies for use in the classroom, a practice that has been widespread for years.  No students have been required to provide supplies, and the donations were accepted as such, but the question of “solicitation” has been a concern in the eyes of a number of school administrators and their school board attorneys.
