Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:  This bill would amend Subpart 2 of Part 2 of Article 16 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to require an annual report by August 1 of each year regarding disciplinary and placement actions taken during the prior year regarding any student who brought a weapon to school.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • The report would have to  contain:
    • Number subject to disciplinary or placement action;
    • Age and grade level of such students;
    • Students’ race and gender;
    • Students’ special education status, if applicable;
    • Type of weapon involved;
    • Type of discipline administered;
    • Type of placement given the student, if any.
  • There would have to be a separate report for each school in the system and may be included in the annual student data report.
