SUMMARY:
This bill amends Code Section 20-2-690.1 of O.C.G.A. to authorize each local board of education to determine the maximum age of mandatory education in its school system from 16 to 18 and provides alternative tracks.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Though LBOE sets mandatory age, parents and guardians may sign a waiver for a child to opt out of public school between age 16 and the age set by the LBOE so long as the child enrolls in and attends a community college or technical school.
NOTES:
- There is no mention how a decision to opt out of public school to enroll in a college or technical school would affect the high school’s completion rate. Would it be treated as a transfer or a withdrawal?
