Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:  

            This bill would amend Article 7 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to provide for scholarships to a school in the University System of Georgia or the Technical College System of Georgia equal to tuition (when funded) for children of personnel killed from combat wounds.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Eligible students must have had a parent to die from combat wounds and must be a resident of Georgia, now and for the duration of the scholarship.
  • A parent’s wound that results in a 50% disability would also quality the student.
  • The scholarship would be good for a maximum of 4 years for the sum of the cost of tuition.
  • Payment would be paid pro rata based on level of enrollment.
  • The General Assembly would have to appropriate the funds.
