Representative Matt Barton has dedicated his life to serving his community, continuing a proud family tradition. He represents House District 5 which includes portions of Floyd and Gordon counties, where he is committed to improving the lives of his constituents through responsive and thoughtful legislation. With deep roots in public service, Rep. Barton is the grandson of Troy Upshaw, a former State Representative in the Georgia House Representatives, and his other grandfather Robert Dudley Barton Jr., who served as Chairman of Bartow County Schools. Inspired by their examples, Rep. Barton has carried forward their legacy of leadership.
Over the years, Rep. Barton has held several key roles in his local community. He previously served as a board member for Calhoun City Schools, as a councilman for the City of Calhoun and is currently a member of the Gordon County Hospital Authority Board.
Beyond his public service, Rep. Barton has been a successful entrepreneur, owning a local courier business for 31 years. His strong sense of responsibility extends to his personal life, where he has been married to his wife, Lynne, for 31 years. Together, they have raised two daughters, Kathryn and Leslie, and have built a life centered around family, faith and community.
Rep. Barton currently serves as Vice Chairman for both the House Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications Committee and the House Motor Vehicles Committee. Additionally, he serves as Secretary for the Appropriations and Industry and Labor committees. He is also a member of the Health, Small Business Development and Transportation Committees, and serves as an Ex-Officio Member of the Ways & Means Committee. Rep. Barton is a servant leader, rooted in tradition, but focused on the future, continuously working to strengthen the fabric of his community. |
