Bio

From her activist roots in the Dominican Republic to decades of community leadership in the Bronx, Yudelka Tapia has dedicated her life to fighting for justice. Raised by a family of activists, Yudelka learned early on that real progressive change is possible if you fight for it. While attending O&M University, Yudelka organized groups to prevent domestic violence, promote education, and combat political corruption. In college, she was President of the Union Democratica de Mujeres, a national organization that organized and educated women. Yudelka immigrated to the West Bronx from the Dominican Republic more than 30 years ago. She's made this community her home, raising her four sons here and advocating for the issues that matter to our communities. As PTA President at Roosevelt High School, a member of the Executive Committee of our local DC37 Union, and as our Democratic District Leader, Yudelka has dedicated her life to making our neighborhood better for working families like hers. As the proud mother to four Black sons, Yudelka is committed to fighting for justice and an end to racist policing. As our next Assemblymember, Yudelka is ready to fight for a just recovery from the pandemic that helps our community and uplifts the workers and immigrants that are essential to our city. She has the experience and energy to demand good-paying, union jobs in our neighborhoods; fully funded public schools; support for our seniors and small businesses; and meaningful criminal justice reform.
