Senator Tony Strickland has dedicated his professional life to fighting for California. The son of an Army Drill Sergeant, Tony was born at Fort Ord, CA, and was raised with a work ethic and sense of duty that sticks with him to this day.
Throughout his three decades of public service, Tony has had the honor of serving in both houses of the legislature, as well as Mayor and City Councilmember in Huntington Beach. Elected to a second term in the State Senate in 2025, Tony now represents the people of Orange and Los Angeles Counties as Senator for the 36th Senate District.
Tony attended Whittier College, where he excelled both on the basketball court and in the classroom. Eventually earning his bachelors degree in Political Science, Tony was named a Nixon Scholar.
Elected to the California State Assembly in 1998, at just 28 years old, Tony served as Vice-Chair of both the Health and Governmental Organization Committees, and developed a reputation for looking out for taxpayers and ratepayers throughout the state.
In 2008, Tony was elected to the California State Senate. Serving as Vice-Chair of the Health and Environmental Quality Committees, Tony continued fighting to make important changes for California. His dedication to fiscal responsibility has earned him a lifetime "A" rating from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, and he remains one of the state's top advocates for spending reform and accountability.
Upon leaving the legislature, Strickland became a visiting scholar at USC's Jesse M. Unruh School of Public Policy. And in 2022, Tony was elected to serve on the Huntington Beach City Council where he tirelessly fought for public safety and opposed legislatively-imposed high-density housing requirements. Fed up with overreach from Sacramento, as well as inaction on crime, homelessness and affordability, Tony has been championing the need to Make California Golden Again.
Tony Strickland is married to Carla, a 30-year Huntington Beach resident. He has two children, "Tiny" Tony and Ruby, and two step-children, Graeme and Jameson, and a dog, Winston. |
