| Fort Lupton Councilman Carlos Barron said he wants to protect small businesses and promote oil and gas drilling in his run to be the Republican representative to the Colorado State House for District 48.
Barron announced his candidacy for the Republican party's June 2024 primary in a Nov. 15 news release.
"The essential issues I see here in this district are the attack on small businesses and energy independence" Barron said. "I want to be an advocate for those small businesses that are struggling to keep up with rising costs and taxes. Oil and gas are also being regulated to an extreme and even in danger of getting shut down."
Barron is running for Representative Gabe Evans's seat, who took office in District 48 in January 2023. Evans announced his candidacy to unseat Democrat Yadira Caraveo's 8th congressional district on Sept 6.
"When Republican Representative Gabe Evans made the decision to run for higher office, I needed to step up and continue the fight for all families in the district" Barron said.
Barron is a 37-year resident in Fort Lupton, a husband, and a father of three. His parents immigrated from Mexico when he was a baby.
"They came to live the American dream and raise their family. I don't think Colorado now is what they envisioned" Barron said.
Barron owns multiple small businesses with his wife, Carla. They own Eagle Eye Inspections, a managerial consultants service that provides administrative services to companies. They also own C&C Living, renting homes in Fort Lupton.
He partners with his father and mother with J & F Services in Fort Lupton, an oil & gas provider providing excavation and dirt hauling services.
"I bring 23 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and understand the importance of the industry to the 48th district" Barron said. "I will focus on energy independence, small business, and less government."
