Rep. Matt Soper is a fourth generation Western Colorado native. He was born and raised in Delta, graduating from Delta High School, where he was student-body president.
Rep. Soper picked Olathe Sweet Corn to pay his way through Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University), where he earned a B.A. in political science. Soper served two terms on the college's board of trustees and earned the prestigious Wayne Aspinall Award.
In 2005, Rep. Soper served as a legislative aide to State Senators Ron Teck (Mesa County) and Jack Taylor (Routt County), and later worked for State Treasurer Mark Hillman.
Rep. Soper earned his LL.B. in law and LL.M. in public international law from the University of Edinburgh School of Law, and another LL.M., in intellectual property law, from the University of New Hampshire School of Law.
Rep. Soper is active in his communities, having served on town council, been appointed by Gov. John Hickenlooper to the Seventh Judicial Nominating Commission, an active volunteer at the Abraham Connection Homeless Shelter, a trustee on the Delta County Museum Board, and former chairman of the Historic Preservation Board. Soper is active in his church and is the first known Seventh-day Adventist to serve in the Colorado General Assembly.
Rep. Soper is engaged and he and his fiancee enjoy gardening and traveling. Soper is an avid tennis player, swimmer, hunter, and skier. Rep. Soper is a professional researcher and writer. |
