Bio

Colorado State Sen. Cleave Simpson has launched his 2024 re-election bid for State Senate District 6, representing his home base of the San Luis Valley as well as the counties of Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma, Montrose, Ouray, San Juan, and San Miguel. Simpson, who serves as the minority whip for Colorado Senate Republicans, is extremely proud of the legislative record he has built since he was elected initially to represent Senate District 35 in November 2020 and then, through Colorado Redistricting, became the state senator for State Senate District 6. Simpson, 61, is a 1984 graduate of the Colorado School of Mines and 1979 graduate of Alamosa High School. During his engineering career he and his family lived and worked in Texas and Australia. He and his wife, Cathy, returned home to Alamosa and the San Luis Valley in 2014 to help his father, Alan, operate the Simpson family farming and ranching operations. His return to the San Luis Valley also led to his employment with the Rio Grande Water Conservation District, where he has served as general manager since 2016. He believes leadership through a thoughtful, collaborative approach is necessary to provide solutions to the pressing needs in State Senate District 6 and improve the standard of living for all rural Coloradans.
