Senator Freddie Powell Sims, a Democrat from Daw - son, was first elected in 2008 to serve Senate District 12, which includes Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Dougherty, Early, Miller, Mitchell, Quitman, Randolph, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell and Webster County. Sen. Sims served in the Georgia State House of Representatives from 2004 to 2008. She served on the following House Committees- Education, Economic Development, Tourism, Transportation and Natural Resources and the Environment. Currently, she is Secretary of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth. She is a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Appropriations, Interstate Cooperation, and Natural Resources and the Environment.
