Senator Valencia Seay is a Democrat representing Senate District 34, which includes portions of Clayton and Fayette counties. Sen. Seay is a member of the Appropriations, Government Oversight, Public Safety and Science and Technology Committees. Additionally, she is an ex-official on the Transportation Committee. Retired from a 22-year career in banking, Sen. Seay is president and CEO of Seay & Associates. Elected to Clayton County Board of Education in 1992. Served two years in Georgia's House of Representatives and 15 years in Georgia State Senate. Throughout her career, she has been closely involved with various civic groups. Recently, she was honored by the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council for her Legislative Advocacy for establishing an agricultural museum (Senate Bill 274, 2015). In addition, she received the 2015 We Are Clayton Living Legend Award. She is also a Life Member of the NAACP and the National Council of Negro Women. She is very active with the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, where she serves as Vice Chair. Sen. Seay also supports the advancement of women as a member of the National Organization of Women Legislators, Women in Government and the Women's Legislative Caucus, where she has served as a tri-chair from 2007 to 2008. In 2007, Sen. Seay was honored by the Clayton County chapter of the NAACP with its prestigious Living Legend Award. Sen. Seay received the 2015 Alpha Kappa Alpha Capitol Legislator of the Year Award for her longstanding commitment to the people of the 34th Senate District and her unwavering supports for the advancement of women. Sen. Seay is married to Walter, and they have two children and four grandchildren. The Seays are members of the Antioch Baptist Church North. |
