Heather Matson has spent the last 25 years working and volunteering as a public policy advocate and campaign and fundraising professional committed to building community, connections, and civic engagement. She is currently serving her second term in the Iowa House of Representatives for District 42. Heather's legislative committee assignments include Education, Health & Human Services, Appropriations, State Government, Administration & Rules, and the Economic Development Budget Subcommittee, where she serves as Ranking Member. She is an Assistant Leader in the Iowa House Democratic Caucus. Heather also serves as an ex-officio board member of the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Council on Health & Human Services.
Heather is strongly committed to volunteerism, with a particular focus on public policy and raising funds for the causes she holds dear. Putting community first, Heather currently serves on the board of directors of the Ankeny Kiwanis Foundation and the Ankeny Service Center. Her previous volunteer priorities included serving as Vice-Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, as Chair of Planned Parenthood Voters of Iowa, and as a member of the board of directors for the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa.
Previous work experience includes roles on several state and national political campaigns as well as government affairs and fundraising positions with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, and the Des Moines Social Club.
A native of Rhode Island, Heather holds a bachelor's degree in government from Western New England College and a master's degree in legislative affairs from George Washington University. Heather lives in Ankeny with her husband, Dr. Chris Matson, and their fourteen-year-old twins, Emma and Henry. |
