Representative Eric Gjerde is serving his second term in the Iowa House. Gjerde resides in Cedar Rapids with his wife Amy and three daughters Grace (13), Caroline (10), and Ella (10). Gjerde has lived in Iowa since graduating from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois where he earned Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Religion and Sociology. Gjerde also has Masters of Arts Degrees in Social Studies Education and Educational Administration from the University of Iowa and a Doctorate in Education Policy and Leadership from the University of Northern Iowa.
Gjerde serves as a member of the House Committees of Agriculture, State Government, Labor and Workforce, and Ways and Means and is a Ranking Member on the Justice Systems Budget Committee.
Gjerde is a member of the Iron Works Local 89, Fraternal Order of Police, and the Cedar Rapids Police Bargaining Union. Representative Gjerde is a 20-year veteran of Iowa's Public-School system where he taught special education. Gjerde is in his 2nd year as a patrol officer for the City of Cedar Rapids. In his free time, Eric is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys spending time at various parks both camping and hiking with his family, and attending various sporting events. |
