Matt Commons is a lifelong Hoosier. Born and raised in Warren County, Matt graduated from Seeger High School before enlisting in the United States Army. Matt completed two tours in Afghanistan. During his second tour, Matt was wounded in combat which resulted in him receiving a Purple Heart.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, Matt returned home to attend Ivy Tech and then Purdue University. Matt returned to Seeger High School to begin his teaching career in social studies and government. During the fall, Matt is an assistant coach for the varsity football team.
Matt and his wife, Alyssa, have two sons, Broden (9) and Kayce (1). They currently reside in rural Williamsport. Matt enjoys spending time with his sons in the outdoors and teaching them how to hunt and fish.
Matt currently serves on the Warren County Council where he has helped usher in a $12 million broadband program through private and public grants. As a teacher, Matt knows how important it is for Hoosier students to receive the best education possible. In the Statehouse, he will fight to provide students and teachers with the best possible outcomes.
Matt is committed to giving power back to our local governments to ensure that our local officials, not Indianapolis bureaucrats, make the best decisions for our communities. |
