State Rep. Greg VanWoerkom was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2018. He represents the new 88th House District, which encompasses parts of Muskegon County and Ottawa County. The district includes Ferrysburg, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and his hometown of Norton Shores, along with the townships of Crockery, Olive, Port Sheldon, and Robinson.
Committees
Rep. VanWoerkom is Republican vice chair of the House Tax Policy Committee. The committee is responsible for deliberating on generally applicable taxes on business, income and personal property. The panel reviews and addresses the practical procedure of taxing and any existing credits or exemptions, as well as handling various issues related to the state's sales and use taxes.
He is also Republican vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor and Economic Opportunity and is a member of the Economic Development and Small Business Committee, as well as the Health Policy Committee.
Education
Greg has a bachelor's degree from Calvin College and a master's degree in political leadership from George Washington University.
Professional and Public Office Affiliations
Greg was the district director for U.S. Representative Bill Huizenga and previously served as the senior policy advisor to U.S. Representative Pete Hoekstra. He serves on the board of the United Way of the Lakeshore and is the former board president for Western Michigan Christian High and Middle School.
Legislative Accomplishments
Rep. VanWoerkom helped craft the last several state budgets, including those that helped steer Michigan through the COVID-19 pandemic. He championed development of the MI Tri-Share program and helped lead other initiatives to improve access to childcare for working families across the state.
He was a key member of the House Appropriations Committee as chair of the Subcommittee on Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2020, during which he worked to eliminate barriers to economic growth from the budget.

Greg is raising his family in Norton Shores and is a member of the Muskegon Rotary Club and Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven. |
