| Erica Mosca is a proud first-generation college graduate, District 18 homeowner and social justice advocate. Mosca graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University in 2008 and chose to move to East Las Vegas to become a Clark County School District fifth grade teacher with Teach For America. She was inspired to empower students and families who shared the same socioeconomic background as she had growing up to have an equitable opportunity to succeed. At this time, she earned a Masters in Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and bought a townhome on East Tropicana and Boulder Highway for her and her parents.
After her transformational experience as a teacher, Mosca earned a second Masters in Education for Policy & Management from Harvard University. Mosca chose to return to East Las Vegas to use her knowledge, skills and experience to empower her former students and all Clark County School District students as a Special Project Manager in the CCSD's Superintendent's Office specifically working on the School Performance Framework.
While maintaining close relationships with her former fifth graders and realizing there was no comprehensive high school to college pipeline support in the area, in 2012 Mosca used her savings to found Leaders in Training a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to empower East Las Vegas students to become first-generation college graduates and future Nevada leaders. LIT started the year her former fifth graders began high school and today serves 60+ students in four cohorts with the first group of graduating seniors becoming the first in their family to attend college in fall 2016.
Now knowing what it takes to empower low-income and working-class families to have the necessary resources and opportunities to follow their dreams, Mosca is running for District 18 Assemblywoman to address and make solutions for the unequal ecosystem surrounding community members around education, fair work and community resources. Mosca believes East Las Vegas deserves more and is ready to fight on behalf of all District 18 residents. |
