Bio

A graduate of South Carolina State University and the University of South Carolina Law School, Deon lives in North Charleston and serves his community as an attorney. Deon has spent much of his life in public service. While in college, he worked in the office of the late Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy, where he assisted on the Health, Education, Labor & Pension (HELP) Committee. As a law student at the University of South Carolina School of Law, he advocated for the underserved by serving as a Guardian Ad Litem for Richland County's Court Appointed Special Advocates Program (CASA). Deon also represented indigent clients in courtroom proceedings in Magistrate Court through the University of South Carolina's Criminal Law Practice Clinic. He served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable L. Casey Manning in Columbia, South Carolina, which allowed him to gain a unique understanding of legal matters from both sides of the aisle. Deon is a member of the American Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association, Charleston County Bar Association, South Carolina Association for Justice, and South Carolina Black Lawyers Association. For five years, Deon worked as an attorney at David Aylor Law Offices. In 2023, Deon joined Rogers, Patrick, Westbrook & Brickman (RPWB) where he works on product liability, personal injury and criminal defense cases. Deon was recognized by the National Black Lawyers Association as Top 40 under 40 Personal Injury attorneys. He is also a 2022-23 Super Lawyers Rising Star for personal injury litigation. As both an elected official and a lawyer, Deon has been a voice for the voiceless and a changemaker in his community. Since being elected to the Senate last fall, Deon has worked to ensure the children of South Carolina continue to be fed despite Governor McMaster's negligence and willful rejection of federal aid. He has also worked to safeguard small businesses from government overreach. Additionally, he championed an amendment to the Permitless Carry Bill that will prevent racial profiling. He is very much looking forward to continuing this work for you. While his time here has been short, he has accomplished a lot.
