Brian S. King is a member of the Utah State House of Representatives. He was born and raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1985. Representative King is the sole proprietor of a law firm where he specializes in representing individuals who are suing health, life, and disability insurers, as well as self-funded employee benefit plans for claims arising under the federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act.
In 2008, Representative King was elected to the Utah State House of Representatives, serving as the Democratic representative for District 23, which covers parts of Salt Lake City and Summit County. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in passing significant legislation aimed at reducing gun violence, implementing tax reform, protecting vulnerable children and adults, combating domestic violence, reforming criminal and juvenile justice systems, expanding access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment, and enhancing government efficiency. Additionally, he is a vocal advocate for increasing resources for both public and higher education, preserving the health of Great Salt Lake, safeguarding voting rights, protecting civil liberties, and defending reproductive freedom. Representative King also held the position of Leader of the House Minority Caucus from 2015 to 2022 and has been actively involved on the boards of the Rape Recovery Center and the ACLU of Utah. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for Utah's Hogle Zoo.
In his personal life, Representative King is ecstatically married to Ann Silverberg King, and together they cherish their blended family of seven children and soon-to-be three grandchildren. During his free time, he enjoys leisurely walks, listening to podcasts, hiking, traveling, and reading. Brian is a passionate fan of the University of Utah and the St. Louis Cardinals. |
