Bio

Gay Lynn Bennion represents House District 41, which encompasses Alta, Brighton, most of Cottonwood Heights, and sections of Holladay, Midvale, and Murray. Notably, this district also includes the picturesque Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. She was elected to this position in 2020. In her role as a representative, Representative Bennion collaborates with both state and national leaders to tackle two of Utah's most pressing issues- water and housing. She actively participates in the bipartisan Great Salt Lake Caucus and has successfully passed legislation to codify the Watershed Restoration Initiative into state law. This initiative has been pivotal in coordinating essential restoration efforts in watersheds across the state since 2007. Additionally, Representative Bennion is dedicated to addressing water and energy conservation in schools. She also advocates for policies that benefit both tenants and landlords, aiming to address the escalating rental rates and privacy concerns. Furthermore, she works on policies to enhance outcomes for Utah's women and girls and facilitate the state's transition towards cleaner energy sources. Outside of her legislative responsibilities, Representative Bennion cherishes spending quality time with her husband, family, and friends. Her recreational pursuits include hiking, biking, and skiing, not only in her district but also across Utah and around the world. She is committed to personal health and extends an invitation to anyone interested in joining her for Pilates sessions. Representative Bennion is an avid reader and is actively involved in several book groups. You can often find her enjoying the company of her grandkids at a local park.
